Learning by doing:
Jala University team shines at AI Hackathon

At Jala University, we believe that learning should be connected to the real world. That’s why our curriculum is designed based on the needs of the tech industry and relies on hands-on experiences and real-world projects from day one.
Seeing our students apply their knowledge in high-pressure environments like competitions or hackathons confirms that we are on the right path.
A recent example that makes us proud: the participation of our students from Colombia, Alberth Pantoja, Andrés Avilés, Santiago Cárdenas Jotty, and Ángel Gabriel Ortega, in the AI Hackathon 2025, where they presented Crime.io, an innovative solution focused on public safety, earning them third place in the competition.

While developing Crime.io, the team used tools and concepts learned during their training at Jala University, such as:
- Data handling and analysis (statistics module)
- Control structures and object-oriented programming
- Fundamentals of artificial intelligence
“Additionally, the practical approach we are given to understand how systems work internally was key to integrating libraries like PyTorch, Pandas, and Streamlit. Although a lot of the learning came from our own efforts, I feel that the program gave us a solid foundation to understand the challenges and face them with sound judgment,” the students shared with us.
The success of our students is not only due to their technical skills. At Jala University, we also focus on developing soft skills such as effective communication, teamwork, and time management.
“We had to be very organized to divide tasks, make decisions under pressure, and solve problems quickly.”

Our program fosters logical thinking, problem-solving ability, and constant connection with real-world problems.
The structure they applied to the project, the clarity of their approach, and the functionality achieved in a short time reflect solid preparation. “That ability to apply what we’ve learned with creativity was an important differentiator,” the students highlight.
The third place achieved at the AI Hackathon 2025 is a testament to the talent and preparation of our students, but it is also a reflection of an educational model that promotes active and relevant learning.
We applaud this achievement and will continue to encourage more students to show what they know by doing, collaborating, and solving real challenges in Latin America and around the world.
